The Pros and cons to Augmented reality

Augmented reality also known as AR is where reality through the eyes of a camera is altered through the use of digital images. To put it in easier terms to understand its where what you are seeing has been altered through digital means while through a camera and a scanner. This was popularised by the game Pokémon go. Where they used your camera and GPs to show Pokémon in real time and locations within your area. Whatls.com describes augmented reality as “Augmented reality is the integration of digital information with the user's environment in real time. Unlike virtual reality, which creates a totally artificial environment, augmented reality uses the existing environment and overlays new information on top of it.

Boeing researcher Thomas Caudell coined the term augmented reality in 1990, to describe how the head-mounted displays that electricians used when assembling complicated wiring harnesses worked. One of the first commercial applications of AR technology was the yellow "first down" line that began appearing in televised football games sometime in 1998. Today, Google glass and heads-up displays in car windshields are perhaps the most well-known consumer AR products, but the technology is used in many industries including healthcare, public safety, gas and oil, tourism and marketing.

Augmented reality apps are written in special 3D programs that allow the developer to tie animation or contextual digital information in the computer program to an augmented reality "marker" in the real world. When a computing device's AR app or browser plug-in receives digital information from a known marker, it begins to execute the marker's code and layer the correct image or images.

AR applications for smartphones typically include global positioning system (GPS) to pinpoint the user's location and its compass to detect device orientation. Sophisticated AR programs used by the military for training may include machine vision, object recognition and gesture recognition technologies”  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlsohMj_IVA&feature=youtu.be

They are used currently within games mostly Pokémon go and other games what copy its game play. And Pokémon go became a huge trend in a time where augmented reality was very uncommon and unknown even to this day but with the fact the game was able to have Pokémon within the real world. The game and any other copies can bond with the audience by making it where they are and with them. In fact many other games are trying to make this connection and use the Pokémon go manic to try and copy its success. Such as the examples below. This will also give you more of a clearer example of how they use augmented reality

Augmented reality is also used to play trailers such as how when they see and image to do with a film, like a poster advertising a film they can have it set up so it can be scanned and the trailers pops up by using your phone through the use of augmented reality. It can be trigger from any image, such a face like the new iphone x new emoji face cam and snapchats filters which alter your face with a digital image. They do this with magazines so when it’s scanned it pops up with the news video or whatever other video or text suits the situation. They can also do this with advertisements so with special codes for you to scan you can see an animation or 3D image  They can also do this with advertisements so with special codes for you to scan you can see an animation or 3D image such as some of the examples below.

Cons within the augmented reality are the fact it’s much unknown, for example anyone can walk past an augmented reality poster and not know that it is meant to do or what its purpose is. People aren’t willing to download an app on their phone and take date, space and their time to stop in public to scan an advert or magazine. So it’s less likely to be seen. And apart from Pokémon go players don’t know what AR is. and that became a massive part of the world’s pop culture. And is still being played today but people still don’t know that augmented reality is used within it because most players turn it off so you can play it and walk and it’s easier for special awareness. No one knows what layar is used for and no one is making it popular by advertising it so without that people aren't seeing layar and what it is able to do no one is using it within or society and that is making it less and less popular. They need to advertise AR more where people will see it such as tv so people are more likely to download the later  app even though its lost data which it could be used to get a number of different apps which could be used better and can be more useful. even the games where its a major part of the game play and people are still not formilar with it. No matter how popular the game is AR is still barely known. Its very useful and can be applied to a lot of different ways to help a number of different people with hundreds or thousands of tasks, such as help building and entertainment but its just not well advertised and people have no way of finding it out unless its shown to them.

Pros within AR is that its easy to apply into a game no matter what game it is you can fit it in and it will help you to bond with the game  more. The whole campaign on pokemon go is bringing pokemon to the real world. Being able to put the game in the real world and in our rooms and lives to break down the bridge between player and people to make the player have an emotional impact with the audience. It can also help people people to fin dout and see more of the news and inform them to whats going on in the world and can be used to teach people how to use a number of different skills such as making or fixing furniture and how to use other apps or sites it can show you a step by step guide on how to do almost any task with it right in front of your eyes. This will be very useful especially within teaching and could help advertising a lot with the trailer being able to appear with only the poster and the app will help build up the excitement for films. This is wikipedia's explaining AR's history "The primary value of augmented reality is that it brings components of the digital world into a person's perception of the real world, and does so not as a simple display of data, but through the integration of immersive sensations that are perceived as natural parts of an environment. The first functional AR systems that provided immersive mixed reality experiences for users were invented in the early 1990s, starting with the Virtual Fixtures system developed at the U.S. Air Force's Armstrong Laboratory in 1992. The first commercial augmented reality experiences were used largely in the entertainment and gaming businesses, but now other industries are also getting interested about AR's possibilities for example in knowledge sharing, educating, managing the information flood and organizing distant meetings. Augmented reality is also transforming the world of education, where content may be accessed by scanning or viewing an image with a mobile device or by bringing immersive, markerless AR experiences to the classroom.[9][10] Another example is an AR helmet for construction workers which display information about the construction sites."
