Poster
The image on the right to this text is the poster to promote my music video. This is my first attempt on making a poster for my music video. I used images from my music video and the title of the song. The song name is oblivion and while making the music video I added a shot of someone writing the word oblivion and I played it in reverse. I got a still from the video of the beginning of oblivion scene so the word was still together and another still with the actor having paint over them. I then layered them over each other and used the screen blend mode to blend both images together. I also made the canvas black so the background will be mono colour similarly to the video.
Research into Posters
While doing research into poster designs. I looked into bright coloured Music videos for inspiration. A lot of the posters had plenty of room. I wanted to have this in my music video because I was using the minimalist art style for my music video so using less content to create more meaning is what I was aiming for. They also had the title being quite prominent on the screen with the font in the style of the video. I interpreted this within my poster by adding the still of the title I got from the music video and having it shown on screen at the bottom. While this is my first attempt I will have it higher in the image during my second attempt. To have it higher in the image can give it more power because you see it above everything else and your subconscious will interpret it as being above everything else because that's what I am showing the audience. I also had a different image to tie it with my music video. Like how my examples do with the car, character and book. I got another still from my music video to have within the poster. This helps to fill out empty spaces so I had the amount I wanted and made it more interesting to look at because was on screen. All the other images had the director name on the poster and I did this as well along with the band name and members. While I was creating the music video I wanted the video to resemble and painting which is why I used so much paint during the video. This is why I used stills from my music video instead of creating images for the poster because I felt this will get the tone i was trying to get across better than creating my own image.
T-Shirt
These are my final T-Shirt designs to promote my music video. I used the website Teespring to create the T-shirt designs. I tested a number of designs to see which one I would like to do. But because the website only allows designs in the centre of the shirt I decided to go with the head because I feel it's the most recognisable image of my music video. However their were a number of mistakes I made while creating the T-Shirt. The biggest mistake I made was the pricing. I couldn't lower the price below the one in the screen. I also meant to change the pricing in the other products I was selling such as the hooey and women's shirt. They were their original pricing and not the lowered pricing I meant for them to have. I couldn't figure out why the pricing wouldn't change.
Shirt Designs
These are the shirt designs I made to see which designs look better and to see which designs have people been more positive to and which ones were more negative. But because Teespring only allows a small square for the design of the shirt I had to get rid of the word design. I then opened up to my classmates to see which ones they prefer and they seemed very positive with the black on white designs. But I wanted the shirt to resemble more of my music video so I took a still from my music video so that it would have the pin light colour and have the detail which were in the final product.
Other Poster Designs
These are other poster designs. I created before settling on the final design. While I like the original 2. Such as the one containing the picture frame and the first one I created. I wanted to swap around the colour palette. Because I used both whites with blacks and blacks with whites. I also wasn't happy with the positioning on the first poster design so I decided to raise it so it look like it has more power. I also wasn't happy with how the text fonts looked. But while editing the second one I was unhappy with how the image looks without any text so while editing my final poster design. I decided to use a different font. In a similar way the posters I looked into for research did. While is why the final designs, information has such as different design than the title.
Final Poster Design
I decided to make a poster to promote the music video. Because my music video is heavily inspired by fine art music video and other experimental music videos. So I decided I would look at similar music videos posters design. While it took a number of attempts to get the design right I am very pleased with how this one came out. I took inspiration from the other music videos having the title of the video with an image either from the music video or has ties to the music video. An example of this being used within my poster is the word oblivion at the top of the screen and the head design being centred in the image. While I was testing the poster designs I created multiple test posters. My first attempt had the word oblivion at the bottom of the image. I quickly realised this didn't look right so I decided I would change the design and have it at the top. Because if the title is on the top of the image the audience see it as being better and higher up than it would be if the title was lower down. I also based the colour scheme on the thumb nail for my music video which was a still taken from the video along with the T-shirt designs I created. I decided to put the text at the bottom similar to the other posters I was taking inspiration from, because the image has no other place it would look natural and to the viewer as they look down at the image something is constantly there to make the image more interesting and pleasing to look at. I also made the fonts at the bottom of the image different to the ones at the top to make them stand out more. So the viewers eye is drawn to the bands name so people know who the song was made by.
